Catching Up With Alex Frye

I was lucky enough to catch up with rookie Alex Frye before the holidays. What I gather from him is that he is a humble rider ready to take the Supercross Industry by storm. He never wavered from being grateful for the opportunity presented to him. Take a look at what he had to say about his season.

Q. Merry Christmas! What are your plans with a couple days off for the holidays?
A. My plans for the holidays are to head home to Maryland for a few days. That’s where I’m originally from so I’m going to spend time with the family over the holiday.

Who encouraged you to start riding? How did everything start for you?
Well originally it was my dad who introduced me to a dirtbike in 2002. At the beginning it was a way for us to spend time together as father and son.

Who are some of the riders you grew up idolizing? What are some of the different traits you want to emulate from them?
I’ve never really idolized any of the riders, but there are certain traits that I would definitely like to emulate. Some of those traits are for sure working hard, staying humble, and never giving up.

Who would be your dream team if you could pick anyone to work with (trainer, teammates, mechanics etc)?
To be honest it has been a dream come true to be a part of the TLD team I am currently on. We have a great group of people to with, and I don’t think you have a better set of teammates. We all work really hard, but at the end of the day we all are thankful and realize how lucky we are to be able to do what we are doing.

What emotions do you and your family have coming into your rookie year?
Well everyone is really excited for me. I have a great bike to race this year, and a great training program. Not really nervous or anything. Just excited to see what the future holds.

What was your “a-ha” moment when you realized your dream to ride professionally was becoming a reality?
Honestly a few months ago. I saw the shop and I saw how much work goes into the team, and it really motivates me to give my all everyday.

What are your goals for 2016?
My goals for 2016 are to have a solid year with no injuries. We are looking to have steady improvement throughout the year. Tyla Rattray has us on a great training regiment, so I’m really looking forward to racing.

What do you think will be your biggest challenge to overcome during your first race?
The biggest challenge will most likely be calming the nerves. You’re racing in front of thousands of people so it can be nerve racking.

What is the main thing that helps you focus? What would you say is your biggest distraction?
Honestly I just try to focus on what’s right in front of. Think about the things I can control, and let everything else go.

What is your favorite practice track?
I’ve really been digging the TLD test track. As of now we are getting it rebuilt, so I’m excited to ride it.

We all get lazy every now and then. What do you do to “get in the zone” to get up and train or condition when you really don’t want to?
The thing that drives me is the sacrifices that I see the people around me making. It really motivates me to do the same. Also, looking at how far I’ve come is a big motivating factor. I also thank God each and every day for blessing me with this opportunity.

Besides riding, what other hobbies and/or activities do you enjoy?
Trying to figure out some hobbies at the moment. I lived in Cairo, GA for a while and there was never anything to do besides train. So I’ve been actively trying to figure out what I like since I’ve been in SoCal.

If you had to do something other than ride for a career, what would you envision yourself doing?
I envision myself going to college and moving somewhere into the medical field. I can’t say that Motocross is the only thing I wanted to do in my life.

Who are your sponsors and supporters for 2016?
Redbull, GoPro, TLD, KTM, Motorex, Acerbis, Dunlop, Karcher, and Adidas.

As you can see, Alex Frye is coming into 2016 with a solid head on his shoulders and realistic expectations and goals. I’m sure none of us can wait to see what this rider will bring to the table and accomplish this year.

Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy your family and the holidays.
